Veteran Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has backed former Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain David Warner to be a big hit in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Warner, who was sacked as the captain of the Hyderabad-based franchise in the midway part of the last season will have a point to prove as he returns to Delhi, where he started his IPL career way back in 2009.

Dinesh Karthik has backed the Australian opener to bounce back from the disappointing campaign and once again capture the imagination. Warner has won the Orange cap on record three times, first doing so in 2015. Warner was picked by Delhi Capitals after he was released by SRH.

Dinesh Karthik believes Warner has a point to prove

“Definitely David Warner. And I say that because he’s someone who has shown greatness in IPL over a period of time, [he has won] three Orange Caps. Obviously, last year didn’t go according to plan but I am sure he’ll have a point to prove. He’s gone back to a franchise that he’s played for before. Interestingly, I’ve played with him in that franchise, terrific cricketer, and I am pretty sure he’ll have a very, very good season,” Dinesh Karthik quoted while speaking to Cricbuzz.

The solid Australian opener, now 35, was a pivotal figure in Australia’s quest to win the T20 World Cup at the back end of last year. He was one of the mainstays for the national side as this is what has urged Dinesh Karthik to back him up and bounce back.

Warner will be joined by his fellow Aussie mate Mitchell Marsh in the squad, while they will also have the likes of Nortje, India U-19 captain Yash Dhull and fellow experienced campaigners Prithvi Shaw. The squad will be led by starman Rishabh Pant, who will have the task to guide the team to glory.

Karthik also backed Devon Conway, who will represent Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming season alongside Warner. The Kiwi batter is regarded as one of the best T20 specialists at this moment in T20 cricket.

Devon Conway to star for CSK

“Devon Conway. He’s a new import, he’s going to make his debut for CSK. Terrific player. He’s had a brilliant couple of seasons for New Zealand, did very well even in the World Cup under pressure even though he batted in the middle-order which is not something he does [often]. I have a feeling he’s a very strong player and will go very very well for CSK,” Karthik added while praising Conway.
