IPL 2022: His Batting Position, We Haven't Decided On Yet – KKR Captain Shreyas Iyer On Venkatesh Iyer

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer while talking about the batting position of the all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer said that the team management hasn’t decided where the all-rounder will bat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

Venkatesh Iyer played a huge role in the Kolkata Knight Riders’ remarkable turnaround in the second half of the Indian Premier League 2021 and he was one of the main reasons behind KKR qualifying for the final.

Venkatesh Iyer opened the innings with Shubman Gill and provided the Kolkata Knight Riders with great starts. He was able to score 370 runs in 10 matches at an average of 41.11.

However, when he got his India call-up he was forced to bat in the lower middle-order and the all-rounder was playing the role of a finisher in the Indian T20 International team.

Newly appointed Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas said that he needs to discuss with the team management regarding Venkatesh’s batting position in the team. He added that although Venkatesh is flexible enough to bat at any position, his performance as an opener in the 14th edition of the IPL will always be considered while offering him a position in the playing XI.

“His batting position, we haven’t decided on yet. I need to get out of quarantine and have a chat with coaches and the management regarding that,” said Shreyas. 

“But apart from that, when I had these chats with Venky while playing for India, he’s very flexible in whatever position we put him to play and obviously he’s done great for KKR in the opening slot, so that will be at the back of the mind. He’s a team man, I’ve seen that on the field. Whenever I’ve asked him about how we’ll do as a team, he’s always positive and talks about winning. He’s ready to go out there and show that relentlessness throughout.”
