Mumbai Indians’ captain Rohit Sharma said that all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s contributions to the success of the franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) will never be ignored or unseen. His words came ahead of the IPL 2022 season which begins on March 26.
The 34-year-old feels Hardik was a massive reason for MI’s success and that his contribution will always be remembered. Pandya was not retained by the five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians as they chose to keep hold of Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav.
Although they had a number of match-winners, they had to make the difficult decision of letting Hardik and a few others go back into the auction pool. And Hardik Pandya was picked up by Gujarat Titans before the IPL 2022 auction and was named their captain as well.
I Think He Played A Huge Role For Us To Get That Success: Rohit Sharma On Hardik Pandya’s Contribution To Mumbai Indians’ Success
Speaking at a pre-season press conference ahead of IPL 2022, Rohit Sharma opened up on Hardik Pandya’s role while he was at MI.
“Yes, I mean, look, Hardik was a key member for us without a doubt. But again it is the rules that don’t allow us to keep all the players. His contribution to this franchise will never be ignored or unseen. I think he played a huge role for us to get that success whatever we had while he was here,” Rohit said while responding to Sportskeeda’s query.
On becoming Gujarat Titans Captain, Rohit Sharma said that it is now a new challenge for the Baroda all-rounder.
Rohit said: “It is a different challenge for him now that he is the captain of a different franchise. So it is going to be a different challenge for him. But whatever role he had here, he played that to perfection. Not many people can play that role.”
MI will begin their IPL 2022 campaign against the Delhi Capitals in the second game of the season on March 27.
