Delhi Capitals pace bowler Khaleel Ahmed said Rishabh Pant will lead the team to their maiden IPL title in IPL 2022. Delhi Capitals haven’t won the IPL trophy in the last 14 seasons, in fact, they have appeared in the final just once in IPL 2020 which they lost to Mumbai Indians.
Delhi Capitals have made it to the IPL playoffs in the last three seasons but couldn’t complete the job of lifting the title. Pant replaced Shreyas Iyer as the captain of the team last year after the latter suffered a shoulder injury ahead of IPL 2021.
Rishabh Pant continues as Delhi Capitals skipper in IPL 2022
Although Iyer returned to the team in the second phase of IPL 2021 in the UAE, the team management allowed Pant to continue to don the captain’s armband. Pant was retained by the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2022 retention players’ list where Iyer was released. It set an explicit message that the franchise was firm on having Pant as their leader for the next few seasons.
Rishabh Pant is a talented captain and player: Khaleel Ahmed
Khaleel, who joined Delhi Capitals this season, talked about his experience of playing with Pant in the U19 World Cup 2016. The left-arm pacer believes that the Capitals can clinch their maiden IPL title this year under Pant’s leadership.
“I know Rishabh personally. He is my age and we played cricket together and started our careers almost at the same time. When you know your captain, you can plan things better with him. He is a talented captain and player. I am really excited about the reunion with Pant,” Khaleel was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
“I am confident Delhi Capitals will win their maiden title this time. Rishabh is a talented captain and has been doing really well for Delhi. I am sure Rishabh will lead Delhi to their maiden title win,” he added.
Delhi Capitals started off their IPL 2022 campaign with a thriller win against five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians at the Brabourne Stadium on March 27. They will next play Gujarat Titans on April 2 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
