Tilak Varma, who was picked up by MI for 1.7 crores in the super auction earlier this year, spoke of being starstruck when he first met India and MI skipper Rohit Sharma.
Tilak has become one of the few bright lights for the Mumbai Indians during an otherwise terrible IPL season.
The youthful left-hander, MI’s top scorer so far this season, has made huge progress in securing his spot in the MI XI for years to come.
Sharing the locker room alongside legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Mahela Jayawardena was a childhood ambition for Tilak.
“I was glued to the TV from the first day of the auction, waiting for my name to flash on the screen, and later when I saw myself being selected for the MI squad, it was a dream come true.”
“I’ve been following Rohit Sharma and Sachin Tendulkar since I was a kid, and MI has always able to come back and win in any situation, which is why I admire them so much.”
‘I was a little scared too to interact with him’: Tilak Varma
Tilak, who was picked up by MI for 1.7 crores in the super auction this year, said something about being mesmerized when he first encountered India and MI skipper Rohit Sharma.
“I had chills on my arm the first moment I saw Rohit Sharma. I wanted to hug him and express my appreciation for him, but I was shocked and nervous when I saw him, and I was also a little afraid to contact with him,” Tilak stated on Star Sports’ MI TV show.
In 11 appearances for MI, the 19-year-old has scored 338 runs at a remarkable average of 37.11 and a strike rate of 136.
