Harshal Patel has built a name for himself in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after joining the Virat Kohli-led squad in Bangalore in 2021 for his second stint. The Delhi Capitals (DC) traded the 31-year-old right-arm medium pacer to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) before the start of the 2021 season, and Patel thrived there.

He concluded last year’s edition as the tournament’s best wicket-taker, equaling Dwayne Bravo’s record of taking the maximum number of wickets (32) in a single season of the tournament.

Harshal has 96 wickets in 75 matches throughout his 10-year association with the league, having played for RCB and DC.

The 31-year-old was even selected to represent India in the shortest format of the game after his impressive performance in the 2021 IPL. He has appeared in eight matches so far, picking up 11 wickets.

“Wherever I play, whichever team I play for, at whatever level, I want to make a positive impact. In the game, if I am not playing, I want to make a positive impact on the people who are playing the game.

“Help them in whatever way I can, running the drinks, whatever, however, I can make them comfortable to go out and do their job, which I did for 10 years. Whenever I didn’t play, I made sure that I ran around on the field to make everyone feel comfortable,” he said.

Despite his outstanding performance in the 2021 season, Harshal was not initially retained by the Bangalore-based franchise, but he was later purchased for Rs 10.75 crore in the mega auction. In the current season, he has 18 wickets from 12 matches and is currently in 5th place in the Purple Cap competition.
