IPL 2022: I'm Slowly Getting There: Anrich Nortje
IPL 2022: For the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League, the Delhi Capitals opted to retain Anrich Nortje of South Africa over Kagiso Rabada.
However, the 28-year-old right-arm pacer wasn’t totally ready to play in the first few games but played his first game against Lucknow Super Giants. But it was a forgettable encounter and subsequently, the 28-year-old right-arm pacer was dropped from the playing XI.
On May 5, he made his comeback for Rishabh Pant’s team against Sunrisers Hyderabad, followed by appearances against Chennai Super Kings (May 8) and Rajasthan Royals (May 11). He has taken six wickets at an economy rate of 10.53 in four outings so far. Even though he is back in the starting lineup, the pacer’s fitness remains in doubt.
The Proteas international provided an update on his fitness in a video posted by the franchise’s official Twitter account on Thursday.
There Are No Set Plans To Counter A Tense Situation: Anrich Nortje
Nortje, who was one of the four players retained by DC, said, “Slowly but surely getting there. Still heaps to do. Didn’t actually feel too great today (Wednesday) at the warm-up and at the game as well. So there is still a lot to do, but at least we have got some results from them.”
He also spoke on he keeps himself calm in tense situations, “I don’t know. It’s a hard one to answer. You just get used to it in a way and focus on what you have to do next. Be clear about it and understand what you need to do. Think about what you are going to execute and just do it. Don’t worry too much about the outcome or what could happen. That’s uncontrollable,” he said.
On Wednesday, Delhi trounced Rajasthan Royals by eight wickets in their final match. They are now in fifth place in the league table, with 12 points from the same number of games. They must win their final two games to be certain of reaching the knockout stages for the fourth consecutive season.
