IPL 2022: IPL Should Be Played In India All The Time- David Hussey

Former Australian all-rounder David Hussey said that IPL matches should be staged in India only. Since the COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on individuals’ peace and livelihood, playing sports in public venues has been a daunting task for athletes.
Administrators across the globe have faced their own shares of challenges to host sporting events and concurrently ensure the safety of all the stakeholders involved in making the games happen. IPL, the richest league of the game, was no different as the BCCI couldn’t hold matches in India for the last two years.
IPL final was hosted in UAE in the last two seasons
Last year, the Indian board had scheduled to play all the fixtures of IPL 2021 in India but as the league reached the halfway mark, the COVID-19 situation in the country was raging with the increase of cases in the second wave of the pandemic. As a result, the BCCI suspended the tournament immediately in the first week of May.
The BCCI staged the remaining matches in the United Arab Emirates in the September-October window with the final being held in Dubai. However, the IPL 2022 will be played across four venues in Mumbai and Pune.
It’s really nice for the Indian-based players to play in front of their friends and family: David Hussey
Hussey, who is the mentor of the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, esteemed BCCI’s efforts for successfully completing the last two seasons of the lucrative tournament. The former Kings XI Punjab skipper is delighted for the IPL to return back to India as Indian players will get an opportunity to play in front of their own people.
“IPL should be in India all the time, so I know last few years has been a bit different because of the COVID and I am just fortunate, thankfully the tournament got going. So full credit to all the directors there,” Hussey said in a video posted on KKR’s social media platforms.
“But it is an Indian tournament. It’s good to be playing in Mumbai and it’s really nice for the Indian-based players to play in front of their friends and family. It’s nice to be back in Mumbai, one of India’s homes of cricket but next year we maybe get a chance to play in Kolkata too,” he added.
The IPL 2022 will begin on March 26 as defending champions Chennai Super Kings will clash with KKR at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
