Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has lashed out at the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after they lost their first three matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) edition. He said that the franchise cannot lose three matches in a row after missing the services of just one player.

For those who missed it, CSK is missing out on their ace fast bowler Deepak Chahar who they bought back in the IPL 2022 mega auction for INR 14 crores, the first time CSK paid over INR 10 crores to buy a player in any IPL auction. Chahar had suffered a quad tear during a white-ball match against the West Indies and was ruled out of that series, the next three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, and possibly from the whole IPL 2022 as well.

Meanwhile, CSK started their IPL 2022 season with a loss to Kolkata Knight Riders by 6 wickets in a rematch of the IPL 2021 final. Then they faced off against Lucknow Super Giants, who chased down the mighty 211 against the four-time IPL winners last week before Chennai lost by 54 runs against Punjab Kings on Sunday at the Brabourne Stadium.

The Team Needs To Step Up: Irfan Pathan Chides Chennai Super Kings For Their Dismal Performance

After their third loss in a row, former India and CSK all-rounder Irfan Pathan took to Twitter and blasted the franchise for performing so badly despite missing only one player out of their entire squad. He said that CSK cannot afford to lose three matches in a row because they are missing their star pacer Deepak Chahar. Chahar is expected to return to action in late April, early May of IPL 2022.

“You can’t just be missing one player (Deepak) and lose three in a row. The TEAM needs to step up #CSK,” he tweeted.

Chahar has been a vital cog in the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) armory as he takes important wickets in powerplay overs. This has been an area where the yellow army under the captaincy of Ravindra Jadeja has struggled a lot. In his absence, the team has had to be content with uncapped pacers in Mukesh Choudhary and Tushar Deshpande and even-handed the ball to Shivam Dube in the death overs with all of them proving costly.

CSK will next face off against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Navi Mumbai on April 9.
