Former India player Piyush Chawla accepts Gujarat Titans’ all-rounder Vijay Shankar has lost all certainty, given his performances in IPL 2022 with the bat. Chawla expressed that the Titans’ proceeding to back Vijay Shankar would be gigantic amazement.

Vijay Shankar has been horrendously out of form this season after the Gujarat Titans got him for ₹1.40 crore. The 31-year-old averages a miserable 4.75 from four innings this season, having scored 19 runs. He has arrived at twofold figures just once so far in IPL 2022.

Would Be Surprised If He Gets Any More Chances: Piyush Chawla On Gujarat Titans Backing Vijay Shankar

Talking on ESPNCricinfo’s Timeout, Piyush Chawla expressed that Vijay Shankar has been unable to take full advantage of his chances and doesn’t appear to be in great touch. The 33-year-old expounded:

“I would be surprised if the franchise continues to back him more because he hasn’t performed despite several opportunities. Sometimes, it’s more about appearing in good nick, and plenty of times, even if a batter makes only 10 runs, but looks in rhythm, it works. It seems like his confidence is zero.”

Wriddhiman Saha Should Play More Games: Piyush Chawla

The two-time IPL champ supported Wriddhiman Saha to resume opening and accepts he should receive more open doors. He thinks Matthew Wade hasn’t done what’s needed to get back to the playing XI.

“The way Matthew Wade batted during his opportunities, I don’t think he will return to the side. Saha couldn’t make an impact, but you can’t drop after just one game and he deserves three to four chances. He has played in the IPL before and performed. Hence, I think the Titans will stick to him.”

Saha came into the side in place of the Australian wicket-keeper against the Chennai Super Kings in last week’s match. Although he scored just 11 runs off 18 balls but the Titans won the close game by three wickets.

Piyush Chawla accepts Hardik Pandya’s transition to number four is to give himself additional opportunity to be set and speed up later. In this view, former Indian spinner added:

“The way he has assumed the responsibility and we all know he has immense talent. Batting at number four, Hardik has given himself more time and the best thing is, he knows if he plays till the end, the strike rate will increase automatically. Gujarat Titans’ batting unit is majorly revolving around Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill.”

The all-rounder has accumulated a lot of recognition for driving the side well and has done similarly well with the bat. Pandya has aggregated 228 runs in five matches this season, at an average of 76.00 and strike rate of 136.53.
