Gujarat’s David Miller produced a knock for the ages as he remained unbeaten on 94 to steer the Gujarat Titans to an incredible three-wicket victory over the Chennai Super Kings in their last IPL 2022 match. The Gujarat Titans had endured a disastrous start to their run-chase with the side reeling at 48/4 in 8 overs.

However, David Miller, alongside Rashid Khan (40), forged a match-winning 80-run partnership for the Titans as they secured an incredible win with a ball to spare. With the win, the Titans solidified their position at the top of the table with 10 points.

Gujarat Titans (GT) stand-in skipper Rashid Khan played a stunning cameo in his debut match as the captain to help his franchise chase down a stiff target of 170 against the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Rashid Khan scored a 21-ball 40 studded with 2 fours and 3 sixes, while David Miller finished unbeaten on 94* off just 51 balls.

During GT’s previous game, skipper Hardik Pandya had smashed a 52-ball 87 but he was walking around gingerly during the bowling phase. He complained of stiffness after the game and the management rightfully decided not to risk his fitness.

Gujarat Titans have won 5 out of the 6 games played and are atop the points table while Kolkata Knight Riders are placed at 6th spot with 6 points winning 3 and losing 4 games. Gujarat Titans have Hardik Pandya and David Miller who average at 76.00 and 96.50 in the tournament and have produced influential knocks. Whereas pacers Mohammed Shami and Lockie Ferguson have scalped 8 wickets each to lead the bowling attack.

Shubman Gill who has played 10 Tests and 3 ODI matches for India, will be eager to leave his mark in IPL 2022, as a good outing in the IPL can open doors for the Indian team as well. He was a regular starter for Kolkata Knight Riders since IPL 2018 and his role with Gujarat Titans will be to provide a good start to the team.

Shubman Gill remains one of the most promising openers in the league. He has scored exactly 200 runs in 6 IPL 2022 games averaging 33.33 at an impressive strike rate of 151.51.

Wriddhiman Saha (wk)

Wriddhiman Saha, the Test discard, played the previous game against Chennai and scored 11 runs facing 18 balls. He may be given another chance in place of Matthew Wade, who has scored only 68 runs averaging only 13.6. Rahmatullah Gurbaz is another option.

Hardik Pandya who didn’t play the last game will probably replace No. 3 batter Vijay Shankar who has scored 19 runs in 4 games averaging a pathetic 4.75. Sai Sudarshan who scored 46 runs in 2 games may also return.

David Miller

David Miller was bought by Rajasthan Royals ahead of IPL 2020. Despite playing just one game in the IPL 2020, the franchise retained him for the IPL 2021, keeping in mind his ability to single-handedly change the course of the match. In IPL 2022, he scored 193 runs with the highest of unbeaten 94 in the previous match against CSK averaging 96.5 playing for Gujarat Titans.

One of the uncapped players, Abhinav Manohar Sadarangani was sold to Gujarat Titans for INR 2.60 crore in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. He made his T20 debut for Karnataka in the preliminary quarter-finals of the 2021–22 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he top-scored in the match with 70 not out.

He made his List A debut the same year, also for Karnataka, in the preliminary quarter-finals of the 2021–22 Vijay Hazare Trophy.  He fits into the middle-order batter role and is known to have a reputation for the big hits. He has managed only 106 runs from 5 innings averaging 26.5 and may be replaced by Gurkeerat Singh Mann.

Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya has only played for the Mumbai Indians franchise in the IPL. He has scored 1476 runs for MI in IPL so far at an average of 27.33 and picked 42 wickets averaging 31.26. Also, he didn’t bowl a single over in the last two seasons of IPL for Mumbai Indians.

He has scored 228 runs in IPL 2022 averaging 76 and taken 4 scalps playing 5 games. As a first-time skipper, he was spot on with his tactics and field placements. He didn’t play the last match, but still is Gujarat’s leading run-getter this season.

Rahul Tewatia made his IPL debut in 2014. Rahul Tewatia, who shot to IPL fame with a magical 31-ball 53 in a historic chase against Punjab in IPL 2020, has been sold for more than 20 times his base price of Rs 40 lakh at the mega IPL 2022 auction in Bengaluru.

He has scored 79 runs so far in IPL 2022 averaging 26.33 including a 40-run unbeaten knock. He had hit two sixes in the last two balls of the last 20th over when Gujarat needed 12 to win against Punjab.

The 25-year-old tall and lanky fast bowler, West Indies Alzarri Joseph was bought by the Gujarat Titans for INR 2.40 crore at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. From what started at INR 75 lakhs at his base price, thanks to MI, DC, PBKS, and GT, it soared high to INR 2.40 crore for Alzarri Joseph.

Earlier, the pacer made his IPL debut in 2019 for Mumbai Indians got figures of 6/12, the best bowling figures for a debutant. He also became only the second player to take a five-wicket haul on an IPL debut, after Andrew Tye. He picked 2/34 in the previous game against CSK and may retain his place.

Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan, who picked up 18 wickets in 14 matches in the last edition, has consistently turned heads with his bowling exploits in the IPL. Maintaining a good economy of 6.69, he was the seventh-best bowler in the Purple Cap standings last season. Overall, Rashid Khan has scalped 95 wickets in 78 matches for SRH at an economy of 6.35 and an average of 20.73.

The Gujarat Titans had to shell ₹15 crores to acquire the services of Rashid Khan in the pre-draft after he parted ways with Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has picked up 6 scalps in 6 games averaging 26.6 at an economy rate of 6.66. His cameo of 40 against CCSK in the last match ensured a win for Gujarat Titans in the match where he captained.

Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami garnered a lot of attention at the IPL 2022 mega auction before eventually going to Gujarat Titans (GT) for a winning bid of INR 6.25 crores. Many experts still do not consider Mohammed Shami as a specialist bowler in the shortest T20I format, and his economy rate of 9.54 in T20Is explains the logic behind the dislike.

The veteran pacer has picked 8 scalps so far in 6 games in IPL 2022 averaging only 22.75 including 3/25 against fellow debutants Lucknow Super Giants. He is Gujarat Titans’ leading wicket-taker along with Lockie Ferguson.

The 30-year-old Kiwi pace merchant Lockie Ferguson was one of the richest buys in the 2022 player mega auction that took place in Bengaluru. The Gujarat Titans splashed out Rs 10 crore to acquire the services of Lockie Ferguson, who took 13 wickets in eight matches for Kolkata Knight Riders last season.

He picked 4/28 against Delhi Capitals in a match-winning effort in their last match. He has picked 8 scalps in 6 IPL 2022 games averaging only 25.

A new ball bowler, Yash Dayal was amongst the top 10 wicket-takers in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in the 2021-22 season. The 24-year-old from Allahabad was snapped up by the Gujarat Titans at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction for a hefty sum of INR 3.2 crore.

There were a lot of keen bidders for the youngster in the auction, but it was GT who finally bought him in the end. He has picked 4 scalps in 2 IPL 2022 games averaging 20 including a 3/40 against Rajasthan in his debut game.
