IPL 2022: KL Rahul Explains Why Lucknow Super Giants Signed Him, Marcus Stoinis, And Ravi Bishnoi

KL Rahul has explained the reasons why Lucknow Super Giants picked him, Marcus Stoinis, and Ravi Bishnoi as their three draft players for IPL 2022. The right-handed batsman said that the franchise aimed to get their three pillars sorted by signing them.

For the three mandatory players, Lucknow Super Giants signed KL Rahul for Rs. 17 crores, Marcus Stoinis for Rs. 9.2 crore, and Ravi Bishnoi for Rs. 4 crores. KL Rahul is also set to lead the franchise in IPL 2022. The franchise recently revealed their name ‘Lucknow Super Giants’ for the 2022 season.

Marcus Stoinis Is A Very Flexible Player: KL Rahul

While speaking on the show Backstage with Boria, KL Rahul explained the logic behind Lucknow Super Giants picking him, Marcus Stoinis, and Ravi Bishnoi in the squad.

“The idea behind Stoinis and Bishnoi is very simple. When you are trying to get three retentions, you want to get three pillars sorted. You have an opening batter in me, you have an all-rounder in Stoinis, who can bat No. 5-6. We’ve seen that in Big Bash, he has opened as well. He’s a very flexible player. He gives you a sixth bowling option as well.” KL Rahul said.

The former Punjab Kings skipper also praised Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi, calling them brilliant players.

“We’ve seen in the history of IPL that wrist spinners have done really well and whoever is available in this auction will be hot. We felt getting all of us would give us a good start as a team. Marcus is a very committed player and is a brilliant team man. Bishnoi has a big heart for a youngster who hasn’t played too much. In IPL cricket he has shown a lot of heart.

Lucknow Super Giants is owned by RPSG Group. The group also owned the Rising Pune Supergiants franchise in IPL 2016 and 2017. Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad franchise has picked Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, and Shubman Gill as their three draft players for IPL 2022.

IPL 2022 auction is set to take place next month on February 12 and 13. The venue of the event is Bengaluru. A total of 1214 players have registered for the mega auction. Out of these, about 250 are expected to be part of the final list and go under the hammer.
