Former India spinner Pragyan Ojha expressed that the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ought to keep on persevering with Manish Pandey, notwithstanding his disappointing form. He accepts that the franchise should back the right-hander as they have no different competitors for the No. 3 spot.
The former cricketer offered these comments while talking on Cricbuzz. He called attention to that LSG’s trial of elevating Krishnappa Gowtham to No. 3 blew up during their game against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 10.
LSG Can Afford To Be Patient With Pandey: Pragyan Ojha
Ojha feels that there could be no different players in their arrangement who’d be open to playing in that position separated from Pandey. He explained:
“If you have picked Manish Pandey, then you must show faith in him. They can afford to be patient with him. Otherwise, you will give Manan Vohra a role that he may not be comfortable in. We saw how Krishnappa Gowtham also wasn’t comfortable batting at that position.”
LSG Should Let Manish Pandey Play More Games: Virender Sehwag
Former India opener Virender Sehwag likewise repeated Ojha’s feelings. He proposed that regardless of whether Pandey keeps on flopping in a couple of more matches, he can score huge when it matters. Sehwag said:
“LSG do not have anybody who can come in place of Manish Pandey at No. 3. Evin Lewis is a foreign player and Manan Vohra is an opener. I don’t believe Vohra is a better option than Pandey. Now, that they don’t have options, they should let Pandey play more games.
“It doesn’t matter if he flops in 2-3 games, but maybe he can come up with a match-winning performance during a crucial match.”
In the meantime, Pandey has gone under the scanner for his absence of form in the current season of IPL. He has scored only 66 runs from six games up to this point and has a batting average of 14.67.
Resting Avesh Khan Won’t Make Much Difference: Virender Sehwag
LSG pacer Avesh Khan missed the group’s last game due to a niggle. Sehwag believed that the quick bowler should carve out an opportunity to recuperate from something similar.
He featured that the side has much more matches to play in the competition and it would be an enormous blow for them assuming the bowler gets harmed once more. He added:
“Avesh Khan should only come back into the side once he is completely fit. LSG have played just 8 matches and have a lot of matches to play. It won’t make much of a difference if Avesh Khan doesn’t play 1-2 games. But it would be a problem for them if he plays in the next fixture and gets injured during the game.”
The Lucknow-based side will next be playing their next game in the evening (April 29) when they take on the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 42nd league match of the season. The match is planned to be played at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Kicking off our 2nd half of IPL 2022 on a colorful note
