The mega auction for IPL 2022 season will likely be held on February 7 and 8 in Bengaluru, reports have emerged. Franchises have already retained their players apart from the two new teams and will head into the auction with a set purse.

Notably, this auction could well be the final one where the franchises are built from scratch. It was also reported that the auction could be held in the UAE depending on covid norms but a BCCI source revealed that Bengaluru is their safe bet.

Unless the COVID-19 situation worsens, we will have the IPL mega auction in India. The two-day event will be held on February 7 and 8 and like other years, we plan to hold it in Bengaluru,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying to PTI on grounds of anonymity.

The new franchise, Lucknow, has already begun its building process and has hired Andy Flower as its head coach and Gautam Gambhir as its mentor. In the latest news, Vijay Dahiya was named as the assistant coach.

I am delighted and grateful for the opportunity given to me to work with the Lucknow IPL franchise,” the 48-year-old Dahiya said.

Thanks a lot to Dr. Goenka and the RPSG Group for presenting me this wonderful opportunity in their setup. “The fire to win a contest still burns bright inside me, the desire to leave a winner’s legacy still kicks me 24×7. I will not be contesting for a dressing room but for the spirit and soul of Uttar Pradesh,” Gambhir had tweeted.
