The two new teams taking part from IPL 2022 onwards, Lucknow and Ahmedabad, have been given a deadline of January 22 to decide their three players (two Indians and one overseas) to sign ahead of the mega auction.
The BCCI confirmed that they have permitted the two franchises to begin recruiting players after CVC Capital was given the Letter of Intent (LOI). They were informed via mail on Wednesday morning.
According to Cricbuzz, the letter stated that January 22 was the final date. “They have time till 5 pm on January 22 to complete their signings,” revealed a BCCI official.
Earlier, the apex board had decided to give two weeks time to decide but since the process was delayed due to the issue with CVC, it has been confirmed that ten days is more than enough to sign the three players. Once the players are confirmed, the remaining cricketers will be added to the auction pool.
INR 33 crores to be spent to sign players ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction
As per the notice, Lucknow and Ahmedabad will have to shell out INR 33 crores in total for the 3 players. Similar to the retention policy, the first player will earn 15 cr, the second will get 11 cr, and the final signing will earn 7 cr.
If it’s two players, then the total will be INR 24 cr and only INR 14 cr if it’s one player being signed. The purse that each team will have was set at INR 90 crores before signing and retentions.
As of now, KL Rahul is expected to join Lucknow as the captain and first signing while Hardik Pandya will be in a similar position for Ahmedabad.
