Delhi Capitals added 20 players in the IPL 2022 mega auction to go with the four players they had retained ahead of the auction. The franchise retained Rishabh Pant for 16 crores, Axar Patel for 9 crores, Prithvi Shaw for 7.5 crores and Anrich Nortje for Rs. 6.5 crores.

David Warner was one of their buys for 6.25 crores. While he was expected to cross the 10 crore mark, the Capitals managed to buy him at a rather expensive price. Mitchell Marsh, Shardul Thakur, Mustafizur Rahman, and Kuldeep Yadav were some of the popular players bought by the team during the auction apart from Warner.

With David Warner available, the franchise has no headaches with who their opening combination is likely to become. Warner will open alongside Prithvi Shaw who has shown tremendous growth in the IPL since he started playing the league. That the dynamic opener was retained by the franchise is proof enough of how much they trust him to deliver for them in the future. In this article, we analyse how Warner and Shaw might approach the innings opening the batting for Delhi Capitals.

After not scoring much in IPL 2021, Warner roared back to form in the ICC World Cup 2021. He scored 289 runs from seven games with three fifty-plus scores. He also won the Player of The Tournament award. He looks fit as ever and is enjoying his cricket at the moment. Warner is a part of the Test squad for Australia’s tour of Pakistan while he has decided to skip the white-ball leg of the tour. He will surely play all 14 games for Delhi Capitals in the IPL. Previously he has won the Orange Cap five times in the IPL.

Shaw is unstoppable once he gets going. He has often given Delhi Capitals quick starts in the IPL and has been critical to their success. He will keep the same template in IPL 2022 as well. Shaw has often spoken about keeping his game simple and following a process. With the T20 World Cup later this year, Shaw will like to make full use of the chances he gets with the franchise to make a case for his selection in the ICC event. So far in the IPL, Shaw has scored 1305 runs in 53 games all for Delhi Capitals. It will be interesting to see how Shaw adapts with the experienced David Warner.
