Former BCCI chief selector Kris Srikkanth has blown up at the umpiring howlers in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. On Tuesday (April 19), during the game between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore, Josh Hazlewood got away with a wide ball and it left the cricket fraternity in shock. The Australian fast bowler bowled the ball way outside the tramline yet the umpire didn’t raise his arms to call it a wide ball.

On-strike batter Marcus Stoinis was clearly disappointed with the choice as this episode occurred in the penultimate over the game. It ended up being a defining moment as the Aussie all-rounder was excused off the extremely next ball and it was going great for RCB thereafter. Srikkanth didn’t mince his words while condemning the umpires as he encouraged the authorities to awaken.

What is happening with the umpiring in the IPL: Kris Srikkanth

“What is happening with the umpiring @IPL , it’s quite pathetic and small bad decisions lead to big outcomes! Wake up and put some people who actually can be a ref! #RCBvsLSG,” tweeted the former Indian opener.

In the meantime, the umpires in IPL 2022 have already ended up in controversy at some events. During a game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals, opener Ajinkya Rahane was wrongly declared out in the first two balls of the innings yet the DRS saved him. On another occasion, Virat Kohli has disputably pronounced LBW even with the choice of going to the third umpire.

Thus, Srikkanth isn’t entertained by these howlers and he communicated something similar in his tweet. In the meantime, RCB enjoyed an 18-run triumph in the game as LSG fall behind during the chase of 182 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai.

Captain Faf du Plessis was the master-builder of RCB’s victory as he scored a 64-ball 96 amid a top-order failure. He was also named the Player of the Match. Pacer Josh Hazlewood continued his good form with the ball as he returned with figures of 4-25.
