IPL 2022: Ravi Shastri Feels Dinesh Karthik Is Making A Case For Himself For Inclusion In The T20 World Cup
IPL 2022: Former India coach Ravi Shastri feels that Dinesh Karthik is making a case for himself to be included in the Indian T20 side for the T20 World Cup later this year in Australia.
Karthik has been in tremendous touch as a finisher for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He is hitting at a strike rate of over 200.
Till now, in the three innings, he has scored, 32 off 14, 14 off 7 and 44 of 23.
With No MS Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik Could Be The Finisher: Ravi Shastri

Dinesh Karthik who was part of the 2019 World Cup team has not been in the reckoning for India selection for a while now. He is 36 years old and his primary skill is wicket-keeping. The likes of Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson have overtaken him.
Ravi Shastri though, believes that if Karthik continues this form throughout the tournament, he will make a strong case for himself.
Shastri on ESPNcricinfo said: “With the amount of cricket being played and with the injuries that can take place if you have a good IPL season I feel he is right in thinking in that fashion. He has started off really hot and if he has a crackerjack of a season, surely he will be in that mix.”

“He has got the experience, he has got all the shots…there is no Dhoni in the side now so you are looking at a finisher as well. But you also have to see how many keepers you want – there’s Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant and now there’s Karthik. And if there’s an injury there, then he comes in automatically.”
It also needs to be mentioned that KL Rahul too had donned the gloves for the Indian side in recent times, so it’s interesting to see if selectors do consider Karthik as a potential finisher.
The likes of Venkatesh Iyer and Hardik Pandya who are designated to take up the finisher’s role for the Indian side are currently playing up the order for their respective franchises so it would be a nice headache for the selectors to choose from so many different options.
