Former India head coach Ravi Shastri lavished praises on young batter Shubman Gill as Gujarat Titans beat Delhi Capitals by 14 runs to retain their flawless start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.
The 22-year-old had been dismissed for a duck in GT’s opening encounter of the season, but he bounced back against DC with a magnificent knock that helped his club reach 170/6 against a strong bowling attack.
Shubman opened the batting with brilliant innings that helped Gujarat Titans reach 171-6 in 20 overs.
It was Gill’s highest T20 score as well. Apart from Gill, Gujarat’s skipper Hardik Pandya (31 off 27) and David Miller (20 not out off 15) also contributed with the bat. Gujarat was given the opportunity to bat first.
Shubman Gill is a “pure talent”: Ravi Shastri
Ravi Shastri praised him as a “pure talent” and added that he is one of India’s and the world’s most promising cricketers.
“He is a “pure talent”. After Gill’s 84 against DC, Shastri told host broadcaster Star Sports, “That guy is one of the most quality players in this country and world cricket.”
“He’ll score once he gets rolling, and he makes it seem simple.” He’s got that punch, he’s got the time, and he’s got the strength to clear the ground,” he added.
“He was designed specifically for this game’s format. It’s merely his shot selection and strike rotation, both of which he discussed. There were very few dot balls today, which relieved him of some of the burdens. And he’ll be the one to throw the bad balls away “he stated
“He’s a master of the short ball, as evidenced by his short-arm jab in this innings. And this will do wonders for his self-assurance “Shastri expressed his displeasure with his knock.
Gujarat Titans defeated Delhi Capitals by 14 runs thanks to a superb knock by Shubman Gill (84 off 46) and a clinical bowling performance by Lockie Ferguson (4/24).
