Former India head coach Ravi Shastri identified the two Big surprises of IPL 2022 on Thursday after analyzing the first 16 games and 10 teams.

The ongoing 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) has already completed 16 matches, with the majority of teams having played at least three games.

Even though it is still early in the season, a few teams have shown early signs of improving their playoff chances, while a few major names in the league have struggled to establish themselves.

Shastri raised concern to ESPNCricinfo about the Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians’ bowling departments. He believes Trent Boult’s and the Pandya brothers’ absences have hampered the Mumbai attack, which now lacks the firepower to drive forward.

“Mumbai and Delhi are two teams with a poor bowling attacks. Gujarat is not a weak team, in my opinion. They have a decent number of talented players. However, the calculation is based on what Mumbai and Delhi were like.”

“Rabada and Nortje were on the Delhi squad. When you combine Krunal and Hardik with Boult, Bumrah becomes twice the bowler. That side is now feeling the pressure since it lacks the ability to press, and Delhi is beginning to feel it,” Ravi Shastri said.

Ravi Shastri picks the season’s two biggest surprises:

When asked to name the two biggest surprises of the season, Shastri quickly named CSK and MI, two of the league’s most successful clubs.

“For the manner they began, Mumbai and Chennai.” They are the IPL’s heavyweights, with a combined total of nine titles, and they have yet to make their mark,” Ravi Shastri remarked.

With three wins in four games, Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants have climbed to the top of the standings.

The Gujarat Titans are the only unbeaten team in the league, with former champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and Mumbai Indians (MI) yet to win this season.
