Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja ended up handing over the captaincy back to MS Dhoni on Saturday. The decision was made after CSK struggled under Jadeja’s captaincy and the leadership responsibilities also wore him down.

While the decision to do so seemed to be done on mutual grounds, reports in Cricbuzz have revealed that Jadeja was perhaps forced to step down owing to his terrible form with both bat and ball.

The management cannot be silent that the world’s best all-rounder is not performing to his best. Obviously, he is weighed down by the burden of captaincy. He even started dropping catches,” an insider from CSK was quoted as saying.

CSK began the season with five losses in five games before registering two wins on the trot. Unfortunately, they lost their 8th game as well which meant their playoff hopes are virtually over.

The decision was made late on Saturday evening and it seemed as though Jadeja was keen to focus on his game with important matches for India lined up after the conclusion of the IPL 2022 season.

Ravindra Jadeja has decided to relinquish the captaincy to focus and concentrate more on his game and has requested MS Dhoni to lead CSK. MS Dhoni has accepted [the request] to lead CSK in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game,” the statement from CSK’s official website read on the matter.
