IPL 2022 Retentions: Irfan Pathan Feels Moeen Ali To Be CSK's Fourth Choice

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan backed England all-rounder Moeen Ali to be Chennai Super Kings fourth retention option.
The IPL governing council has set November 30 as a deadline date for all the eight old franchises to submit their list of retained players.

Reports have suggested that CSK is all set to retain their astounding skipper, MS Dhoni, for the next three years. Along with Dhoni, the Yellow Army will also keep all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and young opener Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Irfan picked the aforementioned players as the obvious choice in CSK’s retention plans for IPL 2022 and said Ruturaj might have a future as a leader of the team.
“Mahendra Singh Dhoni yes, Ravindra Jadeja yes, Ruturaj Gaikwad absolutely yes. You might see the future in him as far as the leadership is concerned, what he has shown consistency, that has been outstanding,” Irfan Pathan said on Star Sports.

Moeen Ali brought stability in CSK’s batting order in IPL 2021, one of the major aspects in the team’s massive turnaround after a poor campaign in IPL 2020.
The England all-rounder scored 357 runs from 15 innings at the strike rate of 137.30 in IPL 2021 and also returned with wickets with the ball.
He remained unbeaten on 37 from 20 balls in the final match against KKR. Irfan said if the franchise is looking to retain an all-rounder, than Moeen would be his ideal choice.
“But the fourth one? Sometime back I was thinking about Faf du Plessis, he is 37-year-old. You don’t wanna let go off an all-rounder, either Sam Curran or Moeen Ali. I would go with Moeen Ali for the fourth spot,” Irfan mentioned.
CSK are the title holders of IPL 2021 after defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs. CSK have four IPL titles, just one short of their rivals Mumbai Indians.
