IPL 2022: Former India batter Robin Uthappa has recently revealed that MS Did not have anything to do with him being bought at the mega auctions before the start of the 2022 Indian Premier League season.

MS Dhoni Told Me You Have Been Picked Based On Your Credentials: Robin Uthappa
Chennai Super Kings after having a nightmarish 2020 season got back to their usual self in the last edition as they came roaring back to win the IPL. They beat 2-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the final.
CSK had a lot of work to do in the mega auctions as they had an aging squad which was always under the scanner since the squad got assembled after the 2018 mega auctions. But the team did not bother about the criticism as apart from the 2020 season, they won the title in 2018 and 2021 and finished runners-up in 2019.
In the mega auctions, prior to IPL 2022, they once again trusted their senior players who had done well for them in the past. They had retained MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Ravindra Jadeja. In the auction, they got back, Dwayne Bravo, Deepak Chahar, Ambati Rayudu, KM Asif, and Robin Uthappa.
Uthappa was bought at his base price. He was transferred from Rajasthan Royals before the 2021 season and did well for CSK in the playoffs last season.
On his return to CSK, in a conversation with Ashwin, he revealed that: “MS called me after two days and said, ‘See you, bro’. He said ‘welcome to the team’. I said ‘thank you for having faith in me’. He said ‘I had nothing to do with this decision. He said ‘I didn’t do anything because for two reasons. One is, for your own good. You should get into this side for your own credentials. Two is if I have anything to do with this decision, people will always think because you are my friend, I have picked you on the side. So, I had nothing to do with this decision.”
Uthappa then went on to say that it made him feel good, he felt confident that the management believes in him. “It gave me the confidence that the support staff had faith in me. For me, it was like ‘ok, now I can go there and do my own stuff.”
Robin Uthappa has started well in the new season as he has given good starts to his team. But CSK has not been able to get off the mark yet. After 3 games they are still searching for their first win of the season.
