IPL 2022: Ruturaj Gaikwad Is Suitable To Play Test Cricket: Dilip Vengsarkar

Former India player, Dilip Vengsarkar is very impressed with Chennai Super Kings opener Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Gaikwad who hasn’t had the best of times in IPL 2022 made a strong comeback against Sunrisers Hyderabad as he hit a 57 ball 99 against them.

The Selectors Must be Happy With How Ruturaj Gaikwad Played Against Umran Malik: Dilip Vengsarkar
Prior to the game against SRH, last year’s orange cap winner Ruturaj Gaikwad had scored only 132 runs from 8 innings in the tournament. But against SRH, on his home ground at MCA, Pune, he was back at his best. He took on SRH’s bowlers and displayed his class.
He went after Umran Malik from the beginning itself. Umran was bowling 150+ but yet Gaikwad played him with ease. Dilip Vengsarkar seemed very pleased with that.
“In his earlier match, Umran had shattered the stumps of a few batters. But in this match, Ruturaj handled him upfront and with aplomb. The way Ruturaj played the speedster’s fast deliveries, especially the short ones, should make the selectors happy.
Indian players, of late, have found the pace and bounce impossible to tackle. Ruturaj was confident personified against the short ones as he stood up and played with ease. I think the selectors should not waste any time in drafting Ruturaj into India’s Test side,” said Vengsarkar.
Ruturaj has been in and around the Indian team for the last 1 year and has played 3 T20 internationals. Now Dilip wants to see Ruturaj Gaikwad don the Indian whites as well.

“I am glad that it was a match-winning knock. Also important is the fact that he played proper cricketing shots. There was no awkwardness or desperate hittings or cross-batted heaves. Ruturaj plays with a straight bat. He has already proved his mettle in the shorter format of the game. I am confident he will be successful both in Tests and one-dayers. He looks suitable for the Test side,” Vengsarkar further added.
The Indian Test team has a lot of opening options at the moment with Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Shubham Gill, Prithvi Shaw, and Mayank Agarwal all have been in consideration in recent times.
