Lucknow’s new captain KL Rahul said that he has always admired the aggression with which Lucknow’s mentor and former Indian opener, Gautam Gambhir, has played and captained.
The duo will be pairing up for the first time after being signed up by the Lucknow franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 season. Rahul was brought on board for INR 17 cr which is the joint-highest paid fee in the league’s history.
“Always been an admirer of him and how he has captained KKR when he played and his aggression. So there’s so much to learn from him as well, so I’m very excited about this journey. The auction’s coming up in a few weeks’ time, which is making me a little nervous, but that is the exciting part of the IPL, so fingers crossed,” Rahul told on Backstage with Boria.
KL Rahul opens up on captaincy experience and responsibility
Rahul was made the captain of the Indian ODI team in the 3-match series against South Africa. They lost 0-3 but Rahul said that he is keen to improve and continue performing for the team.
“I‘m really happy with how things have gone, but these are the things that have happened and gone, and we have to look forward and continue putting up the same performances.”
“The selectors and BCCI have shown so much faith in me and given the leadership role as well. That’s a bit of added responsibility for which I want to work even harder, try and do my best, and lead by example,” Rahul added.
Rahul is India’s white-ball vice-captain and is a regular opener in the Test side.
