IPL 2022: Sometimes Things Don't Go Your Way - Rohit Sharma Backs Rishabh Pant After Forgettable Outing As Skipper
Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma came to the defense of Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper, Rishabh Pant after the latter had a terrible day in the field leading his side in a must-win game at the Wankhede.
DC needed a win to stay in the IPL 2022 season but tactical blunders coupled with poor decision-making cost them a slot. Pant dropped a sitter of Dewald Brevis during the run chase before failing to review a caught behind of Tim David, who went on to play the match-winning knock (34 off 11 balls).
“He is a quality captain, there’s no doubt about it. In the past seasons, we have seen how he has led his team. Sometimes things don’t go your way. It is as simple as that.”
“I have been through this kind of situation before and I was just telling him about the same thing. These kinds of things happen on the ground, sometimes it just doesn’t go your way. So, there is nothing wrong with it,” Rohit said.
“It’s a high-pressure tournament and those little fumbles can happen” – Rohit Sharma
Rohit further mentioned that the pressure can get to anybody and somebody as inexperienced as Pant will have difficulties in the early stages.
“You can take a lot of learnings from all of this and try and keep things simple. He’s got a great mind, he reads the game well from behind. It’s a high-pressure tournament and those little fumbles can happen.”
“But it is important not to lose confidence and not to start doubting yourself. That is something I spoke to him about. He’s a confident guy, he’ll come back strong next season,” Rohit further mentioned.
DC lost the game by 5 wickets and crashed out of the tournament, leading the way for RCB to enter the playoffs in the fourth spot.
