IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals have appointed former county player Steffan Jones as the high-performance fast bowling coach of the team for IPL 2022. Jones had previously worked with the same franchise as their fast bowling coach in 2019.

Jones has played 148 First-Class matches, 191 List A games and 56 T20 fixtures in his 17 years of domestic career, he played for teams like Kent, Derbyshire, Dorset, Northamptonshire and  Somerset.

The 48-year-old will commence his duties with Rajasthan Royals during the franchise’s pre-season camp in Nagpur that will be held between March 7 to 10. Jones’ role will involve training with the pace bowlers throughout the year with the major focus on building them for the IPL season.

Jones said he was delighted to return back to the Rajasthan outfit and he is looking forward to work with the pace bowlers of the team.

“I am delighted to be returning to the Rajasthan Royals and grateful to the management for giving me the opportunity to work with the team again.

“With a plethora of talented bowlers in our ranks, I’m looking forward to working with them round the year and preparing them to peak and excel when the season comes,” Jones said in a statement.

Steffan Jones’ expertise can guide us to newer heights: Kumar Sangakkara

Kumar Sangakkara, Director of Cricket at Rajasthan Royals,  said the Wales coach understands the culture of the team and welcomed him back.

“Steffan has been closely associated with the franchise over the past few years so he understands the culture perfectly, and brings with him a very able coaching style, which has been appreciated by both players and management in the past,” Sangakkara said.

“We are delighted to welcome him back to the franchise in his new role, wherein he will be working with our bowlers and providing support to them throughout the year, and we’re confident his expertise can guide us to newer heights,” he added. 

Rajasthan Royals have the likes of Trent Boult, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Navdeep Saini, Prasidh Krishna, Obed McCoy and Kuldip Yadav in their pace battery for IPL 2022.
