IPL 2022: Suresh Raina Used To Provide Stability By Scoring Runs Consistently; CSK Need To Find Such A Player – Ravi Shastri

Former India National Cricket Team head coach Ravi Shastri has said that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will have to find a player like Suresh Raina to make their batting unit strong in the upcoming seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Raina was one of the key reasons behind CSK’s success over the years and the left-handed batter made a major contribution to the MS Dhoni-led side and scored a plethora of runs.

However, the veteran batter was not retained by the franchise ahead of the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction and at the IPL 2022 mega auction, CSK didn’t bid for Raina, which left many fans furious.
Speaking on ESPNcricinfo, Shastri said that people tend to forget Raina’s contribution to CSK. He added that Raina had the ability to score runs consistently while batting at No.3 and the franchise needs to find a player like him to succeed in the future.
He elaborated: “CSK have been doing well for several years, but we often tend to forget Suresh Raina’s contribution. He was a proven player in the IPL. He used to provide stability by scoring runs consistently while batting at No.3.
“He made things easier for the other batters. They need to find such a player. While Rayudu and Uthappa will still play, it will make a lot of difference if they get some cushion.”

Former India head coach lavished praise on star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and said that he shouldn’t be given the added pressure of captaincy and he should be allowed to play freely.
Shastri asserted: “Ravindra Jadeja is a top cricketer. He is one of the best all-rounders in the world. He shouldn’t be given the added pressure of captaincy and he should be allowed to play his game freely. He is a matchwinner and has played exceptionally well in the last two years or so.”
Notably, Jadeja was appointed as the skipper of the Chennai Super Kings ahead of the commencement of the IPL 2022.
Under his captaincy, CSK struggled and his form took a massive hit as he managed to score just 116 runs from ten matches, and with the ball, he bagged just five wickets. After that, the CSK all-rounder decided to hand back the captaincy to Dhoni and he was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury.
