Batting first, Mumbai Indians (MI) were off to a terrible start as captain Rohit Sharma and wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan got out without scoring a run in the first over, which was bowled by left-arm pacer Mukesh Choudhary. Also, young South African sensation Dewald Brevis was dismissed by Mukesh in the 3rd over.

Star middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav batted very well and he scored runs at a strike rate of 152.38 before getting dismissed by Mitchell Santner on the 3rd ball of the 8th over. Suryakumar was able to score 32 runs off 21 balls, including 3 fours and one six.

Then, Tilak Varma and Hrithik Shokeen added 38 runs off 36 balls together before the latter was dismissed by veteran all-rounder Dwayne Bravo in the 14th over.

Mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana removed the big threat of Kieron Pollard, who looked good and smashed a couple of boundaries. Pollard’s innings ended at 14 runs off 9 balls.

While chasing the target, Chennai Super Kings lost the wicket of opener Ruturaj Gaikwad on the first ball itself. Mitchell Santner came out to bat after Gaikwad’s dismissal and he got out after scoring just 11 runs. Notably, all-rounder, Daniel Sams picked up both the above-mentioned wickets.

Left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat broke the 50-run partnership between Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu by dismissing the former in the 9th over. Robin Uthappa scored 30 runs off 25 balls, including 2 fours and 2 sixes. Then, Chennai Super Kings lost quick wickets of Shivam Dube, Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja.
