The Tata IPL 2022 action continued on Saturday as 4 teams were in action on yet another doubleheader day. In the first match, Punjab Kings took on Rajasthan Royals and in the 2nd game, Lucknow Super Giants were up against Kolkata Knight Riders. Rajasthan Royals beat Punjab Kings by 6 wickets and consolidated their position in the top 4 as of now. While in the 2nd game LSG won by 75 runs.

PBKS vs RR

In the first game of the day, Punjab Kings batted first winning the toss. Jonny Bairstow opened the innings and scored a 50. Punjab started well but lost its way in the middle. But a partnership of 50+ in the slog overs between Jitesh Sharma and Liam Livingstone took Punjab’s total to 189. Yuzvendra Chahal was once again the pick of the bowlers for RR as he picked up 3 for 28 in his 4 overs.

RR started their chase in an emphatic fashion with Jos Buttler going bonkers against Kagiso Rabada, but Rabada had the last laugh as he got Buttler out. Sanju Samson played a little cameo but got out for just 23 off 12 balls. Devdutt Padikkal who came into bat at 4 could not get going at all as he scored 31 runs off 31 balls.

It was Yashasvi Jaiswal who kept RR in the chase and in the end it was Shimron Hetmyer once again who finished things off for RR as he scored 31 off 16 balls. This was RR’s first victory while chasing the score.

LSG got to a disastrous start as KL got run out without facing a ball but then Deepak Hooda and Quinton de Kock added 71 runs for the 2nd wicket. But after de Kock and Hooda got out it was a struggle for Krunal Pandya and Ayush Badoni. Pandya managed just 25 runs off 27 balls and Ayush Badoni scored just 15 off 18 balls. In the end, Stonis scored 28 runs off 14 balls and Jason Holder scored 13 runs off 4 balls which took LSG’s total to 176 in their 20 overs.

KKR’s response to the chase was horrible as they took 9 balls to score their first run. Baba Indrajith got out for a duck without scoring. Shreyas Iyer and Aaron Finch too lost their wickets inside the powerplay itself. At the end of the powerplay, KKR were 25-3. Nitish Rana got out in the 7th over. But then Andre Russell blasted 45 runs off 18 balls but he got out to Avesh Khan in the 13th over. KKR were 85-6. Eventually, KKR lost by 75 runs.
