IPL 2022: Virat Kohli Has Been Great For Me As A Captain, He's Respected Me, He's Trusted Me – Faf du Plessis

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis has said that the former RCB skipper, Virat Kohli, has been great for him as a captain. He added that the batting maestro has respected and trusted him.
Kohli stepped down as RCB skipper after the conclusion of IPL 2021 and the RCB bought Faf du Plessis for INR 7 crore at the IPL 2022 mega auction and named him as skipper.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore have done a brilliant job under Faf’s leadership and with 8 wins from 14 games they finished at the 4th spot and qualified for the IPL 2022 playoffs.
In an interview with the Cricbuzz, Faf du Plessis talked about his captaincy and said that Kohli’s backing “stood out” for him. Faf added that Kohli backs his decisions and doesn’t question them.
“What’s also stood out for me is the backing from Virat. I felt that straight away. He’s been great for me as a captain. He’s respected me, he’s trusted me. All of the decisions I’ve made he’s backed, he’s with it, he doesn’t question it,” Faf said.
“We have good rapport on the field where he comes with his ideas to me and we work through that. He’s upbeat, positive, he desperately wants to do well for this franchise and you can see that. It’s just a matter of time,” Faf added about the former RCB skipper.
It’s been a huge privilege – Faf du Plessis on leading RCB
The 37-year-old said that the leadership has been a huge part of his cricketing journey as he wants to leave a legacy behind.
He said: “I feel that leadership has been a big part of my journey because it does give you that sense that it is who you are as a person. I do really find that when you can pull people along with you on your journey and take them somewhere, that has been my purpose but also, obviously, a legacy is something that I always wanted to leave.”
Royal Challengers Bangalore captain further added that leading RCB is a “huge privilege” for him and mentioned that an overseas player getting an opportunity to lead a team in the IPL is a big thing. He said:
“First of all, it’s been a huge privilege. When IPL teams back an overseas captain to come do the leadership role for the franchise, it is a big thing.”
