He has played 209 matches for the RCB franchise and captained them from 2013-2021, taking them to the finals of the tournament in IPL 2016, which was a watershed season for the batter. Kohli had scored a record 973 runs in the IPL 2016 season, which still remains a record for the most runs in a single IPL season by a batter, and to add more glitter to it, Kohli also scored 4 centuries in that season.

AB De Villiers Played A Gun Knock, The Celebration After That Game Was The Most Special That I Have Ever Experienced: Virat Kohli On His Best Moments From IPL

Meanwhile talking to the RCB behind the scenes segment during a photoshoot, Virat Kohli revealed his two best moments in IPL, and one of those involved his best mate from RCB AB de Villiers. He picked two matches from IPL as his best picks.

The first was the match against Delhi (then Daredevils) in Raipur where Kohli had scored a 45-ball 54 to help RCB complete the chase of 139 with 11 balls to spare. The other match was Qualifier 1 against Gujarat Lions where AB de Villiers had scored an impressive 47-ball 79 and stitched a 91-run stand alongside No.8 batter Iqbal Abdulla (33 off 25) to help RCB qualify for the final.

“The last game that we played in 2016 against Delhi in Raipur. And then the very next qualifier, when AB played a gun knock and Iqbal was with him the other end. The celebration after that game was the most special that I have ever experienced,” he said.

RCB however lost the final against Sunrisers Hyderabad, which Kohli labeled as the match that “broke his heart”.

“IPL final 2016 (when asked about the game that broke his heart) and that same year, 2016 World Cup semi-final at Wankhede against West Indies,” he added.

RCB started their IPL 2022 season under the captaincy of Faf du Plessis and lost to Punjab Kings in their opening bout. But they then defeated Kolkata Knight Riders. RCB will next take on Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday (April 5).
