After his comeback to leadership for CSK earlier this season, Shane Watson went into various points about Dhoni’s statements before the toss.

The Chennai Super Kings have had a disappointing start to the 2022 Indian Premier League. Before handing the captaincy back to Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja’s side had only won two of their first eight games.

CSK are almost out of competition for a playoff appearance after three wins, but they will be going to complete the season with a win in their final four matches.

Dhoni had declared upon his comeback to leadership that this campaign would not be his last in a ‘yellow’ jersey; nevertheless, the CSK captain was reluctant of disclosing too much.

“You will see me wearing the yellow jersey.” On his return to the Super Kings’ leadership role, Dhoni told Danny Morrison during the toss, “You will have to wait and watch whether it is this yellow jersey or some other yellow jersey.”

‘He is still doing a great job as a player’: Shane Watson

Shane Watson, who shared the changing room alongside Dhoni at the Chennai Super Kings from 2018 to 2020, now has spoken out on the wicketkeeper statement, the batsman’s implying that Dhoni could take on a coaching position with the team.

“I believe he was referring to a coaching jersey rather than a playing uniform when he mentioned ‘different yellow (jersey)’. “I’d be shocked if he does anything other than being associated with CSK after he retires, whenever that may be,” Watson remarked on The Grade Cricketer podcast.

“He’s basically CSK all the way down.” I’ve talked things around with him at times; we’ve had a lot of conversations, and I know that’s something he wants to do, whether it’s teaching or just being a cricket director. If he doesn’t take that position, I’ll be shocked. “There’s no pressure; he’s still doing a great job (as a player),” Watson added.

So far in the IPL 2022, CSK has lost seven of its ten matches. It is highly unlikely that they will qualify for the IPL 2022 playoffs.
