Delhi Capitals has reached the playoffs for three consecutive seasons from 2019 to 2021. There is no denying the fact that the franchise has become a force to be reckoned with. Delhi Capitals’ fortunes turned since Shreyas Iyer took over the captaincy duties and Ricky Ponting was appointed as the head coach.

Iyer led the franchise to reach the playoffs for two consecutive editions in 2019 and 2020. Rishabh Pant took over the leadership duties in IPL 2021 and he too led the side admirably.

Ahead of the next edition of the tournament, Delhi Capitals opted to retain Rishabh Pant as skipper and let go of Shreyas Iyer. Besides, the other three retentions are Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw and Anrich Nortje. Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje shared the fast bowling duties for DC in the last two seasons.

However, the former wasn’t retained for the next edition. It will be interesting to see who fills his place in IPL 2022. Ahead of the IPL Mega-Auctions 2022, here’s a look at three pacers that Delhi Capitals will target in the mega auctions.

  1. Kagiso Rabada

IPL 2020 was Kagiso Rabada’s best season with the ball in his IPL career so far. The South Africa seamer wreaked havoc with the ball that season as he picked 30 wickets in just 17 matches at an average of 18.27, including two four-wicket hauls.

Rabada, however, couldn’t replicate those performances in the next edition of the tournament. In spite of that, we believe that Delhi Capitals are likely to bid heavily for him at the auctions in a bid to get him back on the team.

  1. Trent Boult

Prior to playing for Mumbai Indians, Trent Boult played for Delhi Capitals in IPL. He had a decent outing for the franchise in 2018, picking 18 wickets in 14 matches at an economy of close to 9. The following year, he played only 5 games and picked as many wickets at an average of 32.60.

Boult was traded to Mumbai in 2020. After witnessing his performances in the last editions, Delhi Capitals would think of bringing him back into the side. He could form a lethal partnership with Anrich Nortje. Both have a different style of bowling and that can keep the team in good stead.

  1. Mohammed Shami

Despite bowling well in the last two editions of IPL for Punjab Kings, the franchise opted not to retain Mohammed Shami for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. The Indian pacer was brilliant, particularly in the death overs.

Shami will be available in the mega-auctions and the franchises are likely to bid heavily for him. Delhi Capitals too would surely put their hands up in acquiring his services.
