Mumbai Indians are one of the popular teams in world cricket. There aren’t a lot of teams in the world that has attained as much success as Mumbai Indians in the T20 franchise tournaments. Mumbai Indians are the most successful team in the history of the Indian Premier League. They have five titles to their name- the most by any franchise in IPL.

Mumbai Indians, however, had a forgettable season last year as they failed to reach the playoffs. There is no denying that Mumbai Indians were filled with match-winners. Unfortunately, they won’t be playing together from next year onwards. Ahead of the mega auctions, Mumbai Indians have decided to retain four cricketers, namely skipper Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard.

Barring Hardik Pandya, who has been acquired by the Ahmedabad franchise, all the other players will find themselves at the auction pool. Jasprit Bumrah will continue to lead the pace-attack for MI in the next edition of the tournament. However, it will be interesting to see who accompanies him in the pace department. In this article, we have predicted three pacers that Mumbai Indians can target in the mega auctions.

  1. Trent Boult

Ahead of the 2020 edition of IPL, Mumbai Indians traded Trent Boult from Delhi Capitals. The move worked wonders for MI as the New Zealand pace dished out match-winning performances for them for the next two consecutive seasons.

He shared the new ball with Jasprit Bumrah and also bowled at the death. The duo made a brilliant partnership as they managed to apply pressure from both ends. Boult remained the second-highest wicket-taker for MI after Bumrah for two consecutive editions. Mumbai Indians, unfortunately, had to release Trent Boult for the next edition but would look to buy him back at the auctions.

  1. Lockie Ferguson

If MI don’t manage to buy Trent Boult back into the side, they could go for someone like Lockie Ferguson. The New Zealand fast bowler showed what he can do with the ball in the second leg of IPL 2021 while playing for KKR.

Ferguson impressed with his consistent lengths and varied his pace beautifully. He bowled yorkers at will and deceived the batsmen on a number of occasions with his slower balls. Lockie Ferguson could be the one that Mumbai Indians might target at the auctions.

  1. Tim Southee

One shouldn’t get surprised if Mumbai Indians bid heavily for Tim Southee in the mega-auctions. There is no denying that Tim Southee has become a vastly improved T20 bowler. Southee picked 8 wickets in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 at an outstanding economy of 6.5. He picked the most wickets in the T20 series in India which followed thereafter.

The New Zealand seamer can bring variety to Mumbai Indians’ pace-attack. His ability to swing the ball early on with the new ball can entice Mumbai Indians to bid for him. Tim Southee has 31 wickets to his name in 43 matches in IPL.
