Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) new recruit Dinesh Karthik lavished praise on former captain of the franchise, Virat Kohli, claiming that he is tactically very strong and knows his strengths and limits as a leader.

Kohli stepped down after the end of the previous IPL season in order to manage his workload. He went on to give up the captaincy of India in all formats, bringing an end to a very successful stint as the skipper.

Speaking about Kohli’s captaincy skills, Karthik had nothing but words of praise for the 33-year-old.

As a player, he is somebody who has maximized his potential and that’s always a good sign for a leader, because they will have a lot of empathy, they will understand what a cricketer might be going through. That’s very important of a leader. I’ve also played against him.”

When he was a leader of South Africa, I’ve seen that he’s tactically very astute. He’s somebody who knows his game very well. In IPL, at the end of the day, you need a tactically very good captain.

“I think he is second-to-none. Leadership is about handling people and everybody will vouch for the fact that he’s a terrific guy,” Karthik revealed in a conversation with Danish Sait.

Karthik went on to mention the time when he spoke to Kohli about the possibility of being signed by RCB. It was during India’s tour of England last year when Karthik was part of the Sky Sports team as a commentator.

When asked about the chances of joining RCB, Kohli hilariously said that he isn’t the person to ask.

Yeah, I slipped it into him and he said, “you might be talking to the wrong person, bro!” Karthik revealed.

The duo will be playing for RCB this year after Karthik was bought for INR 5 crores in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
