Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul on Wednesday (May 18) completed more than 500 runs in the ongoing IPL 2022.

Rahul remained unbeaten on 68 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to take his tally to 537 runs in 14 matches at 48.82 and a strike rate of 135.26. The Karnataka batter has achieved the landmark for the fifth straight IPL season.

Rahul joined Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2018 and became their highest run-scorer of all time with 2548 runs in 55 games with the help of 23 half-centuries and a couple of hundreds.

Rahul’s performances in the last four IPL seasons as followed: 659 ( IPL 2018), 593 (IPL 2019), 670 (IPL 2020) and 626 (IPL 2021). He bagged the Orange Cap in IPL 2020.

Despite Rahul’s phenomenal form with the bat, Punjab Kings were eluded from an IPL playoffs berth in all four seasons.

However, the case is different for Rahul with the Lucknow outfit as the franchise became the second team to qualify in the IPL 2022 playoffs after a nail-biting two-run win against KKR.

Rahul was involved in a record-breaking partnership of 210 runs for the opening stand with Quinton de Kock, who scored a marvelous undefeated 140. Rahul and de Kock’s sublime knocks fired LSG to 210 for no loss in the first innings.

KKR’s chase was led by Nitish Rana (42) and captain Shreyas Iyer (50) but the former fell in the eighth over. Iyer carried on the mission with wicketkeeper-batter Sam Billings in a 66-run stand before the former’s departure.

The arduous task was left on the lower-order batters after Billings was stumped out off Ravi Bishnoi in the 16th over.

Rinku Singh and Sunil Narine displayed big shots in an attempt to claw their way back in the chase. KKR needed 38 runs in the last two overs and both the batters smashed one six each to Jason Holder to bring down the equation to 21.

Rinku clobbered a four followed by
successive sixes in the first three balls to Stoinis, which cut the requirement to three runs in two balls.

Thanks to Evin Lewis, who dived across to his left from deep backward point and grabbed a one-handed stunner to end Rinku’s fightback. Stoinis castled Umesh Yadav in the final ball of the game as LSG pulled a rabbit out of the hat.
