KKR face LSG in a must-win match to stay in the playoffs. With Ajinkya Rahane ruled out, Knight Riders are pondering over Sunil Narine to be used as an opener alongside Venkatesh Iyer for their last league game. Kolkata Knight Riders must win this match to stay in contention for the playoffs.

KKR have faced issues in sorting out their opening combination right throughout the season. The likes of Ajinkya Rahane, Venkatesh Iyer, Aaron Finch, Sunil Narine, Sam Billings, and Baba Indrajith have all been used at the top of the order. However, none of them have given the side consistent starts. KKR have had only one fifty-plus stand in the season so far.

Meanwhile former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha has backed Sunil Narine to open the batting against LSG. Narine is one of those cricketers with over 1000 runs and 150 wickets in the IPL and has proved his batting prowess for the Knights.

“Sunil Narine is a tried and tested option for KKR at the top of the order. He is an attacking option. With that you can pick a player in the middle order as a dynamic option” said Ojha on Cricbuzz.

Another former cricketer Parthiv Patel gave his suggestions on the changes KKR can make in their playing XI. The side has already made more than 20 changes to their playing XI, which has been the most by any side so far in IPL 2022. Parthiv said the Knight Riders can bring in Aaron Finch for Sam Billings and look to add an Indian player instead of Rahane.

“They can look to bring Aaron Finch in for Sam Billings. In place of Rahane, they can introduce an Indian bowler. To bring in a wicket-keeper, they will have to drop someone else for Sheldon Jackson. Another option is to bring in Sheldon Jackson for Ajinkya Rahane or take a chance with Aman Khan. There is so much confusion because there have been that many changes.”

KKR without Rahane and Pat Cummins needs to win this game to stay alive in the race for the playoffs. A loss will knock them out of the season.
