Rajapaksa also believes the Punjab team has the talent to win the IPL for the first time this season. Punjab Kings had a good chance to win their first title in 2014, but the George Bailey-led side lost to Gautam Gambhir’s KKR by three wickets in the final in Bengaluru.
“This is a crucial time for us. The Punjab squad has yet to win a championship. This is the best platform to use, and this is the best option. The foundations have been established, and we’ve set certain goals.”
“This time, we have a legitimate contender for the championship. We’ve put together a strong team. Because of their firepower, the Punjab team is unique this year. This time, I believe something unique is about to happen. This year, we have a good chance of winning the trophy.”
The Shreyas Iyer-led KKR will face Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday, with both teams aiming for their second win of the tournament. Punjab Kings’ season began with a five-wicket victory over RCB in their opening match.
