Wasim Jaffer, a former Indian opener, believes that Kagiso Rabada’s availability against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will provide Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) bowling a huge boost in their second IPL 2022 match.

In their first IPL match of the season, Punjab defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by five wickets. In Rabada’s absence, though, their bowling struggled, conceding 205 runs.

Rabada will undoubtedly be included in Punjab’s playing XI, as per Jaffer. He said during a talk on ESPNcricinfo:

“There’s no denying it” (Rabada will play). In the previous game, Punjab’s bowling appeared to be lacking. As a high-profile pacer, Kagiso Rabada will be embraced into the squad right away. I hope he will take Sandeep Sharma’s place. The addition of Rabada would undoubtedly benefit the Punjab team.”

When asked if he could replace Sandeep Sharma with either Raj Angad Bawa or Harpreet Brar, Jaffer said:

“Raj Angad Bawa did not bowl in the previous game, but I believe he can be used and bowl a couple of overs.” As evidenced by his 140 in the U19 World Cup, he can bowl quickly.”

“He also has a good batting average. Harpreet Brar is a capable spinner, and PBKS is in desperate need of one. At 8-9, he hits well and can contribute significantly. Sandeep Sharma, in my opinion, will be a direct replacement.”

Punjab will seem perfect whenever Bairstow joins the squad: Wasim Jaffer

When questioned if Punjab now looks like a complete team with Rabada in the mix, Wasim Jaffer responded that the addition of Jonny Bairstow to the playing XI will strengthen them even more.

On Thursday, England’s wicketkeeper-batsman arrived in the United States to join the franchise. While assessing the Punjab team,  Wasim Jaffer said:

“When Bairstow joins the lineup after Rabada, Punjab will appear like a complete team.” Their death overs and middle overs difficulties will be significantly alleviated with Rabada’s comeback. The South African bowler is well-known for his abilities in several areas.”

PBKS will next face KKR on Friday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
