Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss against Punjab Kings and opted to field first. Since then, he has got most of his decisions right as the Kings batters have seemingly struggled against the KKR bowlers.

Ever since dismissing Mayank Agarwal in the first over, KKR bowlers have taken wickets at regular intervals and have bowled exactly how Iyer wanted them, to bowl. His acute captaincy was once again on show as he rotated his bowlers beautifully.

In between that, Shreyas Iyer brought an SRK-type celebration when Shahrukh Khan was dismissed by Tim Southee. The big-hitter from Tamil Nadu failed to live up to his reputation and was dismissed for a duck. After taking Punjab to a win in the first game, Shahrukh Khan failed to repeat his heroics with the bat again. Punjab splashed 9 crores to buy him back at the mega auction.

Iyer’s captaincy has been praised time and again in the very short time he has led Kolkata. Iyer made a match out of KKR’s 128 as he took the chase to the last over against RCB. In the end, it was Dinesh Karthik who hit the winning runs for Bangalore. However, it was not before, Iyer managed his bowlers to give the opposition a hard time.

“His captaincy moves are coming to the fore prominently in this season and we will talk more about it as the tournament progresses. He’s a players’ captain. He backs the players at every turn and which is a good sign of a leader. The future of Kolkata is bright under his supervision and we’ve seen glimpses of it in the first couple of games,” said Pathan.
