Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Mayank Agarwal was not a happy man after his side suffered a heavy loss against KKR in match 8 of IPL 2022. KKR made light work of Punjab’s target of 138 as they chased down the target with 33 balls to spare. Andre Russell scored an unbeaten 70 off 31 balls and with Sam Billings added an unbeaten 90-run stand to take KKR home.
For Punjab Kings, nothing went well with both bat and ball. Agarwal was dismissed in the very first over by Umesh Yadav who picked up 4/23 in the game. Along with Tim Southee, the pace duo picked six wickets and broke the Punjab batting line-up. In the post-match presentation, Mayank Agarwal spoke about their batting not clicking and not scoring too many runs in terms of a good total.
“We didn’t bat well enough. That’s where it started. We showed some real fight with the ball initially but then Dre Russ came in and got going. Credit to him for that. It was a 170-ish wicket. I thought we started off well but couldn’t capitalise, a few soft dismissals” Mayank said.
He further added that a heavy loss at the beginning of the season can be worked upon and hailed Andre Russell for his matchwinning innings.
Andre Russell Took The Game Away From Us: Mayank Agarwal
“A game like this at the start of the tournament is fine. I thought the bowlers pulled the game back really well, to get 4 wickets for 50-odd runs. But Russell took the game away from us. A lot of positives for us to take away” the Punjab kipper further added.
Russell is topping the Orange Cap list with 95 runs in three games while Umesgh with 8 wickets from three games is topping the Purple Cap list. KKR is leading the points table courtesy of their big win over the Punjab Kings.
Punjab Kings return on Sunday at the Brabourne Stadium to take on CSK who have lost both their opening games. KKR now have a four-day break before they return on April 6 to play Mumbai Indians in Pune.
