Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Rinku Singh said he had an intuition about winning the player of the game ahead of the Rajasthan Royals clash.
On Monday, KKR put brakes on their five-match losing streak with a seven-wicket win against RR at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
KKR vs RR: Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh take KKR past the finishing line
KKR bowlers bowled well to restrict Rajasthan Royals to a below-par score of 152/5.
Nitish Rana’s unbeaten 48 anchored the chase while Rinku Singh’s 23-ball 42-run cameo helped KKR overhaul the moderate score with five balls to spare.
Skipper Shreyas Iyer also played a sensible innings of 34 in 32 balls to set the tone for the chase.
Rinku Singh hit six boundaries and a six over fine leg off Kuldeep Sen’s bowling in the course of his crafted innings. Rinku was bought by KKR in 2018 but ahead of this season, the left-handed batter had just featured in 10 games for the two-time champions.
After helping KKR win their fourth game of the season, the 24-year-old revealed he was confident of bagging the player of the match award.
“Since morning, I had a feeling that I’d be the Player of the Match and score runs for my team. So I wrote 50 runs not out on my (left) hand,” Rinku Singh told Nitish in a video posted on IPLT20.com.
“I was waiting for my opportunity for a long time. I’ve been with KKR for the last five years, but due to lack of chances, I couldn’t contribute much. But instead of giving up, I kept working hard. I only had the thought that I’ll try my best to help my team win if I get a chance to perform,” he added.
KKR will meet KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants in their next game of IPL 2022 on May 7 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
