Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) has looked like the most complete squad in this season of the Indian Premier League. The KL Rahul-led side also backed this by putting in impressive performances on a consistent basis. However, they have not been themselves in the last few games.

Even though LSG might have lost back-to-back games against RR and GT but with 16 points in their bank they still have a chance to secure the playoff berth, and also finish second in the points table. Lucknow Super Giants are certain to finish in the top-four but a good win and healthy net run rate will help them finish second.

Back To Back Loses Put Pressure On LSG

In their last game against RR, opponents won the toss and decided to bat. The decision initially ended up being right as they dashed away to a splendid beginning, regardless of losing Jos Buttler inexpensively. Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal worked together for an astounding stand and Devdutt Padikkal was unbelievable with his quickfire thump.

They lost the plot a little at the backend and it gave the idea that they were 15-20 runs low, however in the long run, their bowlers switched on the intensity and shielded the total productively.

The pursuit began on an unacceptable note for Lucknow as Trent Boult pushed them back with his double strike. It was a body blow for the chasing side when they lost KL Rahul and it was difficult for them. From that point onward, Hooda and Krunal consolidated for a 65-run stand to keep Lucknow in the match, however, when this stand was broken, the pursuit bit the dust.

LSG Must Win For A Shot At the 2nd Spot On The League Table

Lucknow Super Giants will face Kolkata Knight Riders in their next game at DR. DY Patil Stadium. If they want to qualify as a top 2 team, they would have to make sure they win their match against KKR by a good margin that takes their NRR above RR who is currently sitting in the second spot with the same number of points as LSG. Afterward, they will be hoping that RR gets defeated by CSK or if they win, they don’t win by a big margin.

The scenario where LSG can still qualify after losing their game against KKR will be if any one of DC or RCB loses their respective match. Also, even If RCB wins, they have to win by a huge margin as their NRR is quite below as compared to LSG. Therefore LSG is almost through to the playoff unless it loses against KKR by a huge margin.
