Updated - 01 Apr 2022, 02:10 AM
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) registered their first points in the IPL 2022 season in style. They chased down a target of 211 to defeat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets on Thursday.
Batting first, CSK put on 210 on the board. Robin Uthappa top-scored with a fifty while there were major contributions from Shivam Dube, who scored 49, and Moeen Ali, who smashed his way to 22-ball 35.
Ravi Bishnoi did the star turn with the ball for LSG as he picked up two wickets while conceding just 24 runs. Avesh Khan and Andrew Tye chipped in with two wickets apiece.
In response, Lucknow was off to the perfect possible start. Their openers, KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock put on 99 runs inside the first ten overs. Rahul fell in his quest to up the ante further.
De Kock scored 61 before being dismissed. The responsibility of the run chase then landed on Evin Lewis’ shoulders, and he didn’t disappoint. The West Indian smashed a 23-ball 55 studded with six fours and three maximums.
On the back of his knock, Lucknow was able to get over the line and register their first points in the IPL. As for CSK, it is the first-ever instance in IPL history where they have lost their first two games.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to LSG vs CSK:
Chasing 211 against a team like #CSK will always give confidence to any team, more so to a new team like #LSG which lost the first match of the #IPL2022 . And, they chased it so convincingly especially the composure in the death overs was amazing. #LSGvCSK #CSKvLSG #LSGvsCSK

A brilliant game for both the teams. Another day in cricket which taught us no matter how intense the game is, keep working hard with a smile. @bishnoi0056 was fire on the field. @evin_lewis17 fought like a warrior till the end. Congratulations LSG on an incredible win!! #IPL2022

@ChennaiIPL Needs to come back with better planning..bowling Shivam dubey 19th over wasn’t the best move.. Lot to improve as a bowling unit.. they missing @deepak_chahar9 Badly. jaddu @imjadeja should hv bowled his 4 overs even with due around.. He is a champion bowler

Fantastic chase by Lucknow. They were down and out but Evin Lewis played a gem.
Chennai missed a trick in leaving the last two overs for the inexperienced bowlers. #CSKvsLSG pic.twitter.com/xdSQvI0o0W— Venkatesh Prasad (@venkateshprasad) March 31, 2022

CSK's bowling is very weak this season. Too much to do for their batters. First Deepak Chahar got ruled out and then Milne's injury has only made things worse. #LSGvCSK

Terrible decisions in bowling changes by #CSK , but what a brilliant performance by @LucknowIPL amazing feat and remember the name #Badoni he's a player to watch out in the future! #LSGvsCSK #CSKvsLSG
