Cricketer-turned-commentator Matthew Hayden expressed disappointment over Rajasthan Royals player Riyan Parag’s gesture on the field during the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) match on Sunday (May 15).

Rajasthan Royals climbed to the second spot on the table after thumping KL Rahul & co in a 24-run win at the Brabourne stadium.

Royals posted 178/6 based on the collective efforts of Yashasvi Jaiswal (41), Devdutt Padikkal (39), and Sanju Samson (32). The bowlers put on some strenuous efforts to keep LSG at bay.

Pace bowlers Trent Boult (2/18), Prasidh Krishna (2/32), and Obed McCoy (2/35) were amongst the picks for the Royals while spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal picked one wicket each.

In the final over of the game, all-rounder Marcus Stoinis dispatched Prasidh Krishna’s low full toss straight down the ground for a six.

On the next ball, the Australian attempted to slog for another big shot but ended up holing out to Parag at long-on region.

After completing Stoinis’ catch, Parag made a cheeky remark as he gestured that he caught the ball just above the grass.

The Rajasthan Royals youngster’s act didn’t seem to please Hayden and the former Australian player had some suggestions for the 20-year-old.

“Got some advice for you young man, cricket is a very very long game, and we all have very long memories and you never ever tempt fate because it comes around quick enough,” Hayden said while he was on-air for the official broadcasters during the game.

The victory for the Royals not just boosted their playoffs qualification chances but also ensured them a top-two finish in the league stage.

The Sanju Samson-led side will play their final league stage match against Chennai Super Kings on May 20 in Mumbai. A win will guarantee them a spot in the Qualifier 1 vs Gujarat Titans.
