A newly-added franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Lucknow, has dropped a hint regarding their team name ahead of the upcoming season.

On their social media account on Instagram, the official account temporarily changed its name to ‘Lucknowsupergiants’. Their owners, the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group, was earlier the owner of Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS).

Therefore, the similarity stood out with plenty of social media users catching on to the hint. However, the administrator shortly changed the name back to ‘officiallucknowiplteam’. As of now, the franchise has revealed that the fans will decide what their name will be for the IPL.

Lucknow sign KL Rahul as their captain

The franchise has also signed up Indian opener, KL Rahul, and he is very much likely going to end up as their captain. Rahul and Punjab Kings (PBKS) split mutually despite the franchise’s intentions of retaining him.

Along with Rahul, they signed Australian all-rounder, Marcus Stoinis, and uncapped Indian player, Ravi Bishnoi. While Rahul cost them INR 15 cr, Stoinis and Bishnoi went for INR 11 cr and 4 cr respectively.

As a result, they will go into the IPL 2022 mega auctions with a purse of INR 60 cr. On the coaching front, Andy Flower has been signed as the head coach while Gautam Gambhir has hopped on board as the mentor.
