Cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar reckoned Chennai Super Kings (CSK) should drop England pacer Chris Jordan from their team in the forthcoming match against Mumbai Indians on Thursday.

MI vs CSK Dream11 Prediction

Jordan has played four matches for CSK so far in IPL 2022 and has already leaked 135 runs in 12.5 overs at an economy rate of 10.52 with just two wickets in exchange. Jordan’s overall bowling average in IPL reads 30.85 and this season has been the worst at 67.50.

The England pacer yielded 58 runs from 3.5 overs against Gujarat Titans in his last game. Gujarat’s stand-in skipper Rashid Khan clobbered Jordan for 23 runs in five balls in the 18th over. Jordan also failed to defend 13 runs in the final over as South Africa’s David Miller hit a six and a four before plundering a couple of runs to take his side past the finishing line.

CSK should have no qualms in dropping Chris Jordan: Sanjay Manjrekar

Manjrekar lashed out at Jordan’s bowling stint in the IPL overall and believes CSK should replace him with either Dwaine Pretorious or youngster Rajvardhan Hangargekar.

“When you see a player’s form, people think he has played just two-three matches. But that’s just this season. He’s been playing for a long time for a lot of franchises and his IPL performances have been the same always. They’ve bowled very few economical or game-changing spells,” Manjrekar told ESPNcricinfo.

“So they should have no qualms in dropping Chris Jordan because his long-standing performance in the IPL isn’t great. They have (Dwayne) Pretorius, (Mohammed) Asif, or the Under-19 fast bowler (Rajvardhan) Hangargekar, etc, and can play anyone because they won’t get hit any worse,” he added.

CSK have already suffered five defeats in their first six games this season and they are currently languishing at the second-last place of the points table with just a solitary win against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).  Bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar’s unavailability owing to a back injury added salt to their wounds.
