Sanjay Manjrekar, a former India cricketer who is now a commentator, has doubted Kieron Pollard’s continued inclusion in the Mumbai Indian’s starting XI.
If Pollard is to be picked, Manjrekar reckons he must bowl at least 3 overs for MI in a match. Pollard has only 82 runs for the franchise in six games this season.
Kieron Pollard, the legendary West Indian cricketer, announced his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday, but he is still playing T20 cricket.
Pollard is an essential member of the Mumbai Indians side in the Indian Premier League, with his numbers demonstrating his importance in the shorter version of the game (IPL). Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, on the other hand, does not believe he should be.
He has yet to achieve top form in the IPL 2022 season. In six matches for Mumbai this season, he has a total of 82 runs at an average of 16.40. Pollard has only taken one wicket with the ball, at an average of 70 and an economy rate of 10.
Kieron Pollard has to bowl at least three overs: Manjrekar
Manjrekar has doubted Pollard’s continued support ahead of the crucial encounter between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. Pollard is still not deployed as a bowler in any of MI’s six matches thus far.
“I’m not sure whether the Mumbai Indians ever consider Pollard expendable. However, I believe Pollard should bowl at least three if not four, overs because the team sorely needs a bowler.”
“I believe he is better under pressure than many of the bowlers on this team. So, if he’s not bowling and is only batting, I believe they’ll have to look at Pollard’s scores and contributions “On ESPNCricinfo, Manjrekar remarked.
This season, some of the best hitters in the Mumbai Indians franchise, notably captain Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard, have fallen short of perfection.
At 7.30 p.m. on Thursday, the Mumbai Indians will take on the Chennai Super Kings. A loss to Chennai Super Kings in the a’ must-win game could spell the end of MI’s chances of making the playoffs this season.
