KL Rahul returned to his fluent best after a golden duck in the last game. He scored a brilliant century against Mumbai Indians in just 56 balls. It was also his 100th game in the Indian Premier League.

He also became just the 2nd player after Virat Kohli to register multiple centuries against a single opponent as the captain.

Virat Kohli did it against erstwhile Gujarat Lions.

KL Rahul has been dismissed twice on the very first ball of the innings in the tournament so far. Once Mohammad Shami got the better of him and in the last game, Trent Boult cleaned him up. But those were just pure class deliveries as no other batter could have done anything against those deliveries.

Rahul, therefore, was not in bad form, he just needed some time to settle in the middle. He got that against Mumbai Indians as MI started out by bowling Tilak Varma and Murugan Ashwin in the first three overs. That helped KL settle down in the middle. The threat of Bumrah was just not there as he played risk-free cricket against him. He targeted all the other bowlers. He particularly targeted Tymal Mills who didn’t have the best of days with the ball.

He got good support from all the other batters as Quinton de Kock and he had a 50 run opening stand after that Manish Pandey joined him in the middle and they too had a 70+ run partnership.

Once Pandey got out, KL just changed gears again as he didn’t let any of the Mumbai Indians bowlers bowl to him.

This century also helped him get into the top 5 for the orange cap as has been the case with him for the past 3-to 4 seasons now.

Here’s how twitter reacted to KL Rahul’s century against Mumbai Indians:
